Journeywoman

Are you coming to the south of France with me? Join us at a free Journeywoman webinar!

March 14, 2024 by Patricia Sands

On March 26 at 2 p.m. ET, I hope you will join me along with my author friends Steena Holmes, Jules Larimore, Cheryl Jamison, and owner of Absolutely Southern France Travel, Nancy McGee, as we share our passion for travel with you! This exciting event will be hosted by Carolyn Ray, CEO and Editor of JourneyWoman, the world’s largest and most trusted travel resource for women over 50.

Here’s the link for a free sign-up to join the webinar!

The countdown has begun for our 2024 South of France Memories Tour, September 2nd to 14th. The photo below is from our 2022 Tour. It truly shows the joy that everyone feels, not just in stunning Eze, but everywhere we go. Trust me! Every day is filled with beauty and laughter.

You will notice me mentioning the Tour frequently these days, since we like to have all the spots filled by spring. I love posting reels on Instagram and I wish I knew how to share them here. You can also see previous Tour photos on my website.

Here’s a taste of some of the highlights of our tour:

  • Strolling the seaside Promenade des Anglais in Nice and touring the colorful city
*Meandering through the cobblestone streets of Saint Paul de Vence, filled with history, galleries and charming shops
*Discovering the spectacular hilltop town of Eze and enjoying the spectacular gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
*Exploring the ancient harbor town of Antibes, Patricia’s home away from home
*Walking in Cézanne’s footsteps in Aix en Provence
*Admiring the roman treasures, world-renowned ancient and modern architecture and the spirit of Van Gogh in Arles.
*Touring the ancient Roman Arena in Nimes before savouring local products at the daily market and at an exceptional olive oil mill.
*Enjoying a safari to observe the Camargue’s unique flora, fauna and rose-colored salt marshes
*Experiencing market day in St Remy de Provence & the spectacular Carrières de Lumières in les Baux de Provence
*Discovering a genuine Duché (duchy) in Uzès and admiring the Pont du Gard, UNESCO heritage site and architectural wonder
*Joining harvest time and tasting the wine

We always sell out and would love to have you and perhaps some of your friends or family come along … or your book club, fitness group, whatever. You will find all of the details here. Nancy McGee, owner of Absolutely Southern France Travel, has been busy securing our two luxury hotels (just two, as we only move once, from Nice to Arles) and fabulous restaurants. She takes care of all the logistics and makes certain everything is in place for us to have amazing experiences every single day.

If you have any questions, contact Nancy McGee through the website or DM me on Facebook or email me at patriciasandsauthor@gmail.com. We would be so happy to have you join us!

In the meantime, I hope you will join the Webinar on March 26 and bring any questions with you. You can always email me or Nancy with further information you may require. We can’t wait to welcome you along with us. On y va!

International Women’s Day 2020

March 8, 2020 by Patricia Sands

March 8, is globally recognized as International Women’s Day. This year’s themes are #GenerationEquality and #EachForEqual. Click here for the official United Nations website with more history and information.

This day means different things to different people. For some it’s a celebration, for others it’s a call to action to accelerate gender parity, and for many it’s an opportunity to align and promote relevant activity. Whatever your objective, International Women’s Day is the perfect moment for gender-focused action.

Leaders across the world are pledging to take action as champions of gender parity.

Today I would like to share part of a previous post of mine and honour a dear friend who left this earth last year. Her legacy will endure. One piece of it is this outstanding collection of photographs of women around the world, compiled by Toronto’s own Journeywoman, Evelyn Hannon. This is a stunning celebration of women uniquely contributing to their communities.

Click right here and be sure to continue through all five pages of photos. You will be very glad you did. That’s a promise!

Evelyn-Hannon

Evelyn shared her thoughts on the project at the time:  “As I add the finishing touches to our ‘2016 Journeywoman International Woman’s Day Photography Exhibit,’ I dedicate this year’s compilation to all daughters and granddaughters wherever they live in this great big world. My hope is that with time this young generation of females will bring us closer to a place of equal opportunity for women and for men. As Mothers, Aunts, and Grandmothers we believe in them and will do everything we can to support them.”

Evelyn’s decades of groundbreaking work are being carried on today by others and you can continue to follow Journeywoman on Facebook.

In this photo collection, each is a study in itself, but was there one in particular that stood out for you?

This eye-catching study was taken by my friend, Carol Perehudoff, a.k.a luxury blogger, Wandering Carol. I keep waiting for the image to start moving. Unforgettable!

Celebrate women today and every day. All ages. All nationalities. We are in this together.

Lunch with Journeywoman!

October 23, 2013 by Patricia Sands

Some days are a little more special than others and yesterday was one of those!

Some people you meet are a little more special than others and the woman I met yesterday was indeed one of those!

Evelyn-bio-picEvelyn Hannon, aka Journeywoman, and I spent a couple of hours  yesterday chatting over a light lunch we picked up in Whole Foods at Hazelton Lanes in Toronto. Seriously … just the two of us … lucky me!

Through a conversation we were having online about promoting The Promise of Provence on her site, the next thing we knew we were arranging to meet. I am so delighted we did. As smart, funny and down-to-earth as Evelyn appears in her writing online, she is even more so in person.  This is a woman experiencing life to the max and sharing her energy and enthusiasm with all of us. Lucky us!

In a word: INSPIRING.

I loved the fact we share the same philosophy that age should not be a deterrent to anything you wish to do in life. We looked at each other and laughed as we agreed that getting older is simply an opportunity to have time to follow more of your dreams. Just do it!

No wonder Time Magazine included Evelyn in a list of “this century’s most innovative thinkers”. As a woman way ahead of her time, she recognized the power of the internet and began blogging about travel for women in 1997, expanding her reach from the magazine she began in 1994. She now has over 70,000 subscribers to her newsletter and over 30,000 avid followers on Twitter.

Click right here to read how her personal journey began.

As a serial traveler, I’ve followed Evelyn’s Journeywoman.com website for several years and always found interesting, helpful and/or entertaining travel information there. Although the website is geared to women traveling on their own, the information is valuable for anyone planning a trip or, truly, for people interested in learning more about this wonderful world of ours.  The number and variety of articles on this site will keep you engaged for a very long time.

Just ignore the fact I’m in my track suit as I dashed over right after tennis!

I’m pleased and proud to have The Promise of Provence occupying a little space of its own on Journeywoman.com for the month of November. We’re also going to talk about the WomensTravelNetwork ‘Promenade in Provence’. I will be on the tour … will you?

If you haven’t yet discovered Evelyn’s Journeywoman.com site, I am suggesting that you get yourself over there as quickly as you can. Here you go … CLICK!  You will be writing me to say thanks. I know it!
