August 29, 2015 by Patricia Sands 11 Comments

Welcome back for the second part of this two-fer post. This time I’m taking you to Venice.

As I explained in the last post, I have two different photo journals/essays posted this week on two of my favourite sites: The Good Life France and the LAHE Lifestyle Magazine.  I love sharing my photos with you and hope you enjoy them!

When you have a minute, spend a few minutes in Venice with me. The last photo is one of a perfectly-served espresso, be sure to scroll to the end. Here’s the link!

Photo challenge: CLOSE UP

July 29, 2015 by Patricia Sands 15 Comments

There’s nothing like a photo challenge for pure relaxation when you’re in the middle of editing your manuscript. This week’s challenge from The Daily Post is “Close Up”. Pop on over and take a look at the collection of fabulous participating websites.

I love flipping through my albums. These are from our memorable stay high up the Swiss Alps last May. From the garden:

What have you been close up to lately? I’ve got to get close up with my manuscript again right this minute … the end is in sight! Could be a long night …

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: DOORS

July 7, 2015 by Patricia Sands 8 Comments

Did someone say “doors”? Ahhhhh … j’adore taking photos of doors!

The Daily Post weekly photo challenge this week says, “A door is an everyday thing, yet is often a symbol — of a beginning, a journey forward or inward, a mark of one’s home, or even a step into the unknown.”

Just looking at some of these doors makes my writing juices flow. I would love to know their stories! Wouldn’t you?

I do happen to know the story about these doors above. They are an entrance to the historic Chapelle Saint-Bernardin in Antibes.  If you click on that link, you’ll find a post I wrote about these doors and the gem of a church. They were carved almost five centuries ago (see the 1581 date on the door) and presented to the church by the villagers and farmers in thanks for having survived a terrible plague. On my early morning walks around Antibes, I love to stop and place my hands on those doors and feel the history. I swear you can!

Click on any image to enlarge it and then double-click again to make it even larger. Do you take photos of doors and windows too?  To have even more of a door ‘fix’, drop by The Daily Post and visit some of the other participating blogs or join in and post some of your shots.

One aspect that I love about the online photo challenges, especially The Daily Post challenge, is the opportunity to discover some pretty amazing websites. I always try to find the time to visit as many as possible as it’s a good break from writing! In particular this time I would encourage you to take a look at this outstanding page. This young woman’s photos are spectacular and her philosophy speaks volumes to me. I think it will to you too!

Weekly Photo Challenge: INTRICATE

May 3, 2015 by Patricia Sands 9 Comments

This week’s photo challenge topic brought an immediate Alhambra moment to my mind, before I saw the fabulous collection of shots from there on the Daily Post Photo Challenge site. Be sure to pop over and enjoy them.

I’m willing to bet that anyone who has had the pleasure of visiting Granada, Spain, has toured this spectacular historic 11thC Moorish marvel. I would also bet it’s likely that the word “intricate” would be associated by most to the visuals that arrest and capture the eye immediately upon entering the grounds. In the gardens or within the structures of the Alhambra, intricacy abounds.

One of the reasons I enjoy photo challenges so much, is because they cause me to spend time lingering in my albums. Pulling out these photos caused me to look at some other images I had captured during the same trip to Spain. I can’t wait to get back there in September! Hola, Ofra! 🙂

I’m hooked on rooftops wherever I go … as you’ve no doubt noticed, if you follow my travels. This shot from my sister-in-law’s rooftop terrace in her Lecrin Valley village (not far from Granada) is a favourite of mine. The more my eye wandered across the rooftops to the landscape in the background, the more the intricacies of the scene called out to me.

What do you think?

And then I thought about the dessert I was served the other evening. That was kind of intricate too … and delicious! I’m blaming the soft focus on the wine … that was delicious too!

What’s your interpretation of “intricate”?

Relax for a while at the Daily Post site and stop by some of the other participating blogs to see an incredible selection of intricate images!
