If it’s Friday, it must be France …
From author/blogger/friend Anne-Marie Simons in Aix-en-Provence, her response to last week’s tragic events in France as reported on her excellent blog Provence Today. Although the events of the past week have brought an end to this particular crisis, this was her emotional, poignant and informative response.

Her post begins:
If I were more computer-savvy this blog would be bordered in black today. As it is, the black borders remain virtual but the mourning does not as France is reeling from two attacks by Islamic extremists this week, leaving 17 dead and a number of wounded.

Happy to share the impact of this event, on me and on millions of others in France. This small magazine (circ. 60,000) was revered and detested in equal measure, but attacking it with blazing guns was universally condemned. The resulting wave of sympathy has caused a run on copies which had an initial post-attack print run of one million, then three, then five (all sold out) and, as was announced yesterday, a final print run of seven million copies! Moreover, at last count 200,000 new subscribers signed up. This has touched a very French nerve.
What happened in France was terrible. My prayers are with everyone impacted by these events.
Most appreciated, Chrys.
This violence is inexcusable and we must stand united.
Yes indeed, Sheri. This most definitely needs to be heard and Anne-Marie is a reliable, intelligent voice.
