It was so much fun and very rewarding to hear from so many people during our Celebrating Women event! Today I have to get my head wrapped around some serious work. This post is short and sweet but the message resounds.

Whether we are talking about print or electronic these days, nothing diminishes the importance of books. This is my favourite video at the moment. Enjoy!
I first saw it on this awesome website Reading is Fundamental and hope you will find a few minutes to go there yourself. Children and books: spreading the word and helping to make it happen is the least we can do.

It’s a shame that more people don’t read.
So true, Anneli! This program ensures that kids coming from homes without books have other opportunities to read.
Wow. This is a great organization. I’ve been involved with them a little bit in Portland but not nearly enough. This is why I write books for kids! Great post, Patricia.
I’ve always felt that books for kids must be one of the most rewarding genres for a writer. I’m going to look at yours. Write on!
I never understood how some people don’t enjoy reading. I have since I was born. Luckily, I’ve passed my love of books on to my daughter.
Good for you, Kelly. Reading with your children is one of the best pastimes ever, isn’t it?
One of the reasons my husband and I support rural libraries in both Kansas and North Carolina (our home states) is that these are the states we each learned to read. It was our love of reading that provided us the magic carpet ride to go on and do things with our lives that we are proud of. Now as we give back each month, we hope to provide other children the same opportunities.
That’s wonderful, Sheri, and so meaningful that you support the areas in your home states.
As one who works in publishing I totally support this. People just don’t seem to read enough books nowadays.
Phil, that’s too true! That’s why we have to put extra efforts into making certain kids don’t lose the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magic of books. What area of publishing are you in?
What a wonderful quote. The video has a great message too – thanks for the reminder Patricia!
Right you are! Let’s keep doing our part!
