I have to go meditate … or something …

October 25, 2010 by Patricia Sands

I mentioned a few posts ago that I might rant about my new experiences in the land of social media. I would do it right now but I can’t … I have to go find a quiet place and meditate or just some place where I can talk out loud to myself and no one will hear me or perhaps a padded room … I’m sure you are getting the picture …

It’s just that I’m feeling Facebooked, Twittered, etc, etc, etc to the point of distraction … really, the list is a mile – well, it feels like it …  it’s loooooooooong and I’m F R U S T R A T E D!!!  I’m sorry the links on my posts aren’t working … I’d really like to know why … and sometime soon I will, I promise. I’ll be able to do it all and I won’t have a meltdown like I am now.

After I finish doing one of the above (or maybe all of them), I’m going to watch the outcome of our beautiful city’s municipal election today and see which of the two terrible choices for mayor won. That should be a calming experience … right?

Really, I’ll be fine and – thankfully – tomorrow is another day. Can’t wait!

Thanks for listening. Namaste.

Canadian Authors Association

October 25, 2010 by Patricia Sands

Canadian author Elizabeth Abbott was the guest speaker at the meeting of this association on Thursday, October 21. As well as giving the audience interesting background to her published novels, she spoke candidly on her writing process and experiences. Deftly fielding questions after her talk, her knowledge and insights were well-received. The Canadian Authors Association goes to great lengths to provide its members with informative evenings such as this the third Thursday of every month.Check out their website. http://www.canauthors.org/

A new role model

October 19, 2010 by Patricia Sands

I know I said I was going to rant … er, I mean, write …  about social media on my next post, but this first .  I just read this article and wanted to share it. There are some good suggestions for everyone to put on their “to do” list. Enjoy! (Hope the link works, let me know if it doesn’t. Figuring out stuff like that is messing up my “to do” list at the moment!!!)

Writers and Editors Network (WEN) Toronto

October 19, 2010 by Patricia Sands

On Saturday I attended my first breakfast meeting with this organization since I joined earlier in the summer. The energy in the room and interaction of the members was impressive as well as friendly and welcoming and a lot of good information was shared. Lucy Waverman, well-known Toronto cookbook author as well as newspaper columnist and food editor of the amazing LCBO Food and Drink magazine, was the guest speaker. As well as providing interesting information about writing cookbooks and testing recipes she spoke at length about the publishing world in general. She has seen a lot of changes in her career and noted how self-publishing appears to be the way of the future as traditional publishers struggle  to keep going. She stressed the importance of social media marketing – like it or not! More on that in my next post.

Check out Lucy’s website and bon appetit!
